Laramie’s Community Clean Up Days Are Coming!

April 21-27 is National Volunteer Week and what better way to get involved than to join the City of Laramie’s annual Laramie Community Clean-Up Days. Appropriately enough, the event will kick off on Earth Day, April 22nd, which coincides with National Volunteer Week – a week dedicated to the recognition of volunteerism. The City of Laramie encourages the community to join fellow Laramie volunteers from April 22nd through May 7th for the Clean-Up Days.

Community members interested in volunteering will have a 16-day window to spend time cleaning up Laramie and beautifying the area before summer begins. Anyone and everyone is invited to team up with friends, family, roommates, and coworkers, or tackle a clean-up location individually. This is a great, impactful way to get involved in National Volunteer Week and spend dedicated time cleaning up windblown and littered trash that has landed in Laramie throughout the winter.

Groups and/or individuals should call the City at (307) 721-5285 to coordinate a clean-up location and time. Specific clean-up locations are pre-determined by the City and based on need; however, volunteers may choose other areas they wish to clean up by coordinating with the City Code Enforcement Office for trash bag pick-ups. City staff will collect filled trash bags after volunteers have finished cleaning and collecting garbage. Trash bags and safety vests are available for volunteers upon request.

To celebrate volunteers during National Volunteer Week, the City of Laramie will hold a drawing for gift cards to be awarded to volunteers who have signed up for a clean-up day before the 5:00 p.m. deadline on May 7th. As long as individuals or groups have coordinated a clean-up day and location before then, participants can be entered into the drawing for downtown gift certificates that are accepted by participating local Laramie businesses.

The City of Laramie reminds residents that community clean-up efforts don’t need to be restricted to just National Volunteer Week or during Community Clean-Up Days. Trash and litter pickup is encouraged throughout the entire year. However, the Clean-Up Days event is a great way to join forces and make a big impact.

Call the City Code Enforcement Inspector at (307) 721-5285 to coordinate a clean-up location and time during the April 22nd through May 7th timeframe.
