Wyoming to Receive $403 Million from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for Roads and Bridges
The Biden-Harris Administration is delivering a significant boost to Wyoming’s infrastructure with a $403 million allocation in Fiscal Year 2024. These funds, part of the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, are earmarked for 12 formula programs designed to enhance the state’s critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, tunnels, carbon emission reduction, safety improvements, and workforce development to support these endeavors. This funding is the third year of a nationwide allocation of $61 billion to all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg highlighted the importance of these investments, stating, “Long-needed major improvements are coming to America’s network of roads, bridges, and highways. Thanks to President Biden, we are proud to deliver funding to modernize roads and bridges across America—strengthening our supply chains, creating good-paying jobs, and connecting Americans to every corner of this country.”
Wyoming’s funding breakdown includes:
- National Highway Performance Program: $194,896,160
- Surface Transportation Block Grant: $94,814,348
- Highway Safety Improvement Program: $20,875,294
- Railway-Highway Crossings Program: $1,225,000
- Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality Program: $11,812,542
- Metropolitan Planning: $2,169,885
- National Highway Freight Program: $9,243,490
- Carbon Reduction Program: $8,454,279
- PROTECT Formula Program: $9,613,121
- National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program: $5,704,051
- Bridge Formula Program: $45,000,000
Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt emphasized the flexibility these historic investments provide to states in deciding how to allocate funds for various transportation projects. This includes improving safety for road users, replacing aging bridges, and reducing carbon emissions. He stated, “This funding will allow States to continue the important work of President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that is making our infrastructure safer and more efficient for the millions of Americans who rely on it to get to school, work, and other important destinations every day.”
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law represents the most significant dedicated investment in U.S. transportation infrastructure since the construction of the Interstate Highway System in the 1950s and 1960s. The $61 billion allocated for Fiscal Year 2024 marks an increase of $17.6 billion in formula programs compared to Fiscal Year 2021, the last fiscal year before the law was implemented. This funding is distributed annually by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) based on Congressionally mandated formulas.
