What Permits Do You Need When Hosting An Event On/In Public Property?

Season

With spring officially here and summer on the horizon, the City of Laramie is reminding residents and businesses that when planning to host an event, you may need to obtain a Special Event Permit.

A Special Event is an event in or upon public property or buildings that is open to the public. Examples of some events that need special event permits are:

  • Events requiring street closures
  • 5K runs, marches, and parades
  • Yoga in the Park
  • Cornhole or other sports tournaments
  • Fundraisers and campaign rallies

Depending on your event specifications, your event may also require permits for alcohol, food, tents, or noise. Noise permits are needed for events on public and private property. If held in a park, a park permit may also be required.

To ensure an event is compliant, a fully completed application must be submitted and filed with the City Manager’s Office no less than 14 days before the date of the event. However, the City recommends applying 21 days before the event to ensure all required documents are obtained and clarifications are made before the 14-day deadline.
