Stay Off The Ice At Huck Finn Pond

The City of Laramie is issuing a public safety advisory following a concerning incident involving a community member falling through the ice at Huck Finn Pond yesterday. Despite warning signage clearly indicating the
danger of venturing onto the ice, the individual proceeded onto the frozen surface,
resulting in a hazardous situation.

Fire Chief Johnson, along with representatives from the City Manager’s Office, visited the
site this morning to assess the situation firsthand. In light of this incident, the department
is taking proactive measures to raise awareness about the current ice conditions in and
around Laramie, with a particular emphasis on Huck Finn Pond and LaBonte Lake.
“We urge the public to heed all warning signs and exercise caution when near frozen
bodies of water,” stated Chief Johnson. “The incident at Huck Finn Pond serves as a stark
reminder of the dangers associated with unstable ice conditions. We are committed to
ensuring the safety of our community members and will continue to monitor and address
this issue.”

The City of Laramie would like to remind everyone to exercise extreme caution and
refrain from venturing onto frozen bodies of water, as the current conditions pose
significant risks to personal safety.
