Public Art Installation At City Hall And Celebratory Opening

The Laramie Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to welcome a new public art project to the community. Located in front of the Ivinson entrance to the Laramie City Hall a new large scale moose created by artist Pete Hazel welcomes visitors.

This project was born out of the desire to create a lower maintenance entrance to the City Hall building. Removing a labor intensive small flower garden afforded the opportunity for community members to reimagine what could grace the entrance. After reviewing the work of a variety of artists the committee, consisting of City staff, area stakeholders and local artists settled on Peter Hazel based on his creative reinterpretation of local fauna.

The tiles are all hand-made by the artist and applied to represent the colors of our intense Wyoming sunrises and sunsets. The sculpture was designed to allow for viewers to touch and interact with it, and set at ground level it will be an accessible new work for the community to enjoy.

On Saturday December 14th from 10am – Noon the City and Laramie Public Art Coalition will be hosting a reception and mosaic party. Activities will be open to the public and are designed for community engagement and a little fun. Attendees will have an opportunity to create a mural, take photos with the moose and partake of refreshments.

Funding for this project was provided by the City of Laramie, the Laramie Beautification Committee and the Laramie Public Art Coalition.
