New Orthopedic Surgeon Joins Ivinson
Bailey Johnson, MD joins the Orthopedic Clinic at Ivinson Medical Group where she will see patients for orthopedic care, surgery and on-call coverage beginning this month.
Dr. Johnson is an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in sports medicine, rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle and fracture repair.
A Colorado native, Dr. Johnson grew up in Fort Collins and attended Colorado State University earning her Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Spanish. While attending CSU, she competed in women’s rugby at the division one level as a student athlete. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree, she took advantage of an opportunity to live and work abroad in Spain before attending medical school at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine in Aurora, Colorado. Knowing from a young age that she was interested in orthopedics, she pursued an orthopedic surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
“At the heart of my practice is ensuring that every patient feels heard and respected,” Dr. Johnson said of what patients can expect in her care. “Every question or concern is important to me, and I devote my full attention to each patient during their visit. I believe in personalized, focused care for everyone, whether you’re a professional athlete or someone simply trying to overcome an injury or condition.”
After completing her residency, Dr. Johnson pursued a sub-specialty year to obtain her orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the Hoag Orthopedic Institute, ranked in the top 30 best orthopedic hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. There she trained as an NFL Assistant team Physician to the Los Angeles Chargers football team, as well as other local high schools and colleges in the area.
“My care philosophy is centered around shared decision-making and re-instilling confidence in my patients after orthopedic and sports-related injuries,” Dr. Johnson said. “Although I specialize in treating the unique demands of athletes, my expertise extends to all patients seeking to improve their mobility and quality of life. I utilize my knowledge and experience to identify the most effective surgical strategies suited to your specific lifestyle and needs.”
Outside of her formal training, Dr. Johnson has served as volunteer in the medical field and in her community. Since residency, she has served as a sports sideline team physician for high school, collegiate, and professional sports. Through outreach programs and medical societies, she has had the opportunity to mentor female high school and medical students with interests in orthopedic surgery — all in addition to forming partnerships with medical students interested in hearing from those training in the field. Volunteering within her community is something Dr. Johnson has always made time for throughout her education and specialty training. Through several of her volunteer roles, Dr. Johnson was able to use her Spanish language skills to connect Spanish speaking families to resources in their community.
Returning to the Mountain West, Dr. Johnson is excited to work close to her northern Colorado roots while enjoying the small-town charm, abundant outdoor recreation and community that Laramie has to offer.
