New Nonprofit “LASSO” Launches To Support Laramie Animal Shelter

Local animal advocates are proud to announce the official formation of the Laramie Animal Shelter Support Organization (LASSO). Established as a nonprofit corporation, LASSO is dedicated to supporting the mission, programs, and personnel of the Laramie Animal Shelter through charitable fundraising, community partnerships, and active public engagement.

The Laramie Animal Shelter, a division of the Laramie Police Department, provides essential services for Albany County’s surrendered, stray, and abandoned animals. LASSO was created to bridge the gap between municipal resources and the growing needs of the shelter, ensuring that every animal receives a high standard of care and a second chance at a forever home.

LASSO would like to extend its gratitude to the Laramie Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) who has been providing financial support for shelter animal healthcare. In 1998, the Laramie Animal Shelter Foundation was established to support the Laramie Animal Shelter. In 2013, the Foundation broadened its mission and services and rebranded to the Laramie Animal Welfare Society.

The establishment of LASSO was made possible by a generous anonymous donation from a community member whose commitment to animal welfare has provided the foundation for this new chapter of support for the Laramie Animal Shelter.

“The creation of LASSO represents a partnership of support specifically for the Laramie Animal Shelter.,” says Teresa Bingham, Laramie Animal Shelter Supervisor. “This partnership will continue to support the animals housed at the Laramie Animal Shelter, which includes their spay and neuter program and the medical care that doesn’t get covered by the city’s municipal budget.  This also allows the public to differentiate where their donations are being used.

Key Strategic Goals

Working in close alignment with the guidance and direction of the Laramie Animal Shelter, LASSO will focus on:

  • Preventing Cruelty: Actively working to stop animal abuse through community awareness.
  • Fundraising: Engaging the general public to secure resources for shelter initiatives.
  • High Standards of Care: Ensuring shelter animals enjoy a quality life while awaiting adoption.
  • Educational Outreach: Providing pet owners with the resources they need to be successful.
  • Veterinary Access: Fostering better access to essential medical services for local pets.
