Ivinson Awarded Second Consecutive ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade
Ivinson Memorial Hospital has been awarded its second consecutive ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group for the Spring of 2023. This safety rating is awarded by the Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit upholding the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. An ‘A’ rating celebrates Ivinson’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors. The new grades reflect performance primarily during the height of the pandemic.
“It is important to provide a safe environment for patients to receive the care they need,” Chief Nursing Officer Nicole Rooney said. “When you choose Ivinson for care, you are choosing an ‘A’ grade hospital. We’re proud of the work being done to make that possible.”
Ivinson is among 3,000 general hospitals graded by the Leapfrog Group, including 9 Wyoming hospitals. Last fall, Ivinson was the only hospital in Wyoming to earn a Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade of an ‘A’. This spring, Ivinson maintains its ‘A’ rating and has received a higher Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade than any other hospital in Wyoming.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses more than 30 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and information from other supplemental data sources. Hospitals are assigned a letter grade A–F based on hospital performance metrics reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But this hospital received an ‘A’ despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers and clinicians who together made that possible.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
