City of Laramie Community Recreation Center Introduces New Pool Features

The City of Laramie Community Recreation Center has added new equipment and play features to the leisure pool as part of routine pool renovations and updates. The new features come after several updates in the Rec Center late last year, including the Rec Zone: a full-body interactive movement area for all ages.

The newest, most notable update to the indoor leisure pool is a play structure that includes a large, interactive water toy. This feature includes a water table that allows water to pour from a spout onto a ball and from there onto a table in which kids and adults can control the volume and flow of water. The play structure includes stairs that lead to a slide and other features such as a water bucket. A rain feature was also installed over the lazy river that takes floaters under a rain shower and new kites were outfitted with water streams flowing out of them.

“If community members haven’t seen the pool updates, this is a great time to come check out what’s new at the Rec Center. We’re excited to offer these additions to the pool as part of periodical maintenance and update projects, which are made possible thanks to the Specific Purpose Tax,” says Recreation Manager, Jodi Guerin. “The previous equipment needed to be replaced due to general age and wear, so this was a great opportunity to bring in new types of equipment and entertainment into the pool facility.”

In addition to the toys and equipment, the pool plaster was refinished as part of routine updates. A fence was also installed that separates the indoor lap pool and leisure pool, allowing Rec Center staff to open each pool independently from the other. This helps staff accommodate Rec Center members and guests more effectively. The Rec Center hopes to get the hot tub refurbished and opened back up in the near future as they continue to identify the source of the leak currently preventing the hot tub’s operation and use.

With these updates and additions, the Rec Center needs lifeguards to join their team so they can extend pool hours, which are currently limited due to staffing shortages. Previous training is not required as applicants are eligible for in-house Rec Cross Certification classes. Learn more and apply at https://www.cityoflaramie.org/employment.
