Calling All Hikers and Trail Runners
The Pilot Hill Project construction team (Bruce Burrows & the Wyoming Conservation Corp Crews) just finished Trail #2 and help is now needed walking and running the route to pack it down. Boots and running/hiking shoes will really help make the dust settle and this new trail last. Pilot Hill Project are kindly requesting that there are to be no bikes at this time.
To access Trail 2 – from the corner of 45th and Crow, head east up the Powerline Road/Trail 4. You will see orange flagging and signs directing you to the temporary access route. (approx. 1/2 mile to the trailhead and Trail 2 loop is 1.3 miles)
Please respect the “trail closed” sign at the junction of Trail 3 which is still under construction. Trail 3 will open in a couple of weeks and Trail 1 will be built in August.
County 5 News asked Executive Director of Pilot Hill Inc Sara Brown Mathews, to explain to us more about how a trail comes together: “Trail #2 was designed as part of a three-segment pedestrian only group of trails in the lower (western) portion of the Pilot Hill Recreation Area through the public Land Use Planning process in 2019. In 2020, the design firm SE Group fully engineered the trail corridor, and it was further refined and flagged this spring by a contracted construction manager. This “primitive” style trail was completed by The Wyoming Conservation Corp (WCC), an AmeriCorp program at the University of Wyoming, over a 10 day hitch with 20 crew members and their leaders participating in the construction. The WCC crews are now moving on to Trail #3. The last segment of this system, Trail #1 will be completed later this summer and will be a wider Universally Accessible trail.”
Pilot Hill Project have a couple of trails on their summer project list for bike lovers. Trails 6 and Trail 13 (downhill only) are coming soon. Pilot Hill Project Thanks all bicyclist’s for their patience and for respecting the pedestrian only trails.
