Laramie Police Dept Community Academy

The Laramie Police Department Community Academy is a six-week program designed to strengthen community relationships while providing a behind-the-scenes look at local police practices. Participants will engage in hands-on experiences, discussions, and training sessions led by law enforcement professionals.

Program Overview

Participants in Community Academy will take part in interactive sessions covering key aspects of law enforcement. They will engage in hands-on training such as simulated traffic stops, crisis intervention exercises, and firearms safety drills. The academy provides an in-depth look at patrol operations, investigations, and use-of-force decision-making, including exposure to less-lethal options like Tasers and OC spray. Participants will also observe specialized units in action, including the Bomb Squad, Special Response Team, and Crisis Negotiation Team while learning about the legal system, internal affairs, and dispatch operations. The program concludes with a tactical training simulator, offering real-world policing scenarios to apply their knowledge in a controlled environment.

Topics Include:

  • Patrol Operations – Crime response, investigations, and traffic stops
  • Use of Force & De-escalation – Firearms safety, custody procedures, and crisis intervention
  • Specialized Units – Bomb Squad, Crisis Negotiation Team, Special Response Team
  • Department Functions – Internal affairs, evidence processing, and dispatch procedures


Eligibility Requirements

To participate, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a resident of Albany County
  • Have no felony convictions or recent misdemeanors
  • Demonstrate a willingness to engage in discussions and practical exercises

There are three ways you can apply:

  1. You can fill out the application online here.
  2. You can go to the Laramie Police Station to fill out an application in person.
  3. You can download and print the application, fill it out, and then bring the completed application to the Police Station.

Completed applications submitted online via the submission box below or turned in to the Police Dept. at 620 Plaza Ct. Laramie, WY. by March 18, 2026. Selected participants will be notified by March 25, 2026.
