Call Before Visiting Forest Service Offices

Members of the public seeking in-person visitor services at Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland (MBRTB) offices are encouraged to call in advance of driving to an office location. Front desk operational hours and pass/permit sale availability varies widely.

Visitor information, such as maps, access locations and recreation site status may be obtained online or over the phone if in-person services are unavailable.

The MBRTB annual day-use pass is currently only available online. Members of the public may purchase 12-month annual passes via Rec.gov. Physical hang tags for 2026 are not currently available due to ordering delays.

National passes, such as America the Beautiful, include U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service day-use sites and are currently available online.

If necessary, appointments with local Forest Service staff for situational or project-specific topics may be made in advance by phone.
