City of Laramie Searching for Five Urban Renewal Agency Members

The City of Laramie Urban Renewal Agency is searching for five members to serve on the newly created board and carry out required responsibilities. This is a great opportunity for Laramie residents looking to get involved with urban community planning.

The Urban Renewal Agency (URA) was created by the City of Laramie to execute and begin the process of urban renewal within the City’s boundaries. The goal is to rehabilitate, conserve, and redevelop necessary areas to protect and preserve public health, safety, morals, and welfare of Laramie residents.

To be considered members must reside within the area of operation, which is the city limits, and demonstrate their knowledge of community planning, urban renewal, and business management.

Board responsibilities include:

  1. Eliminate and prevent the development or spread of slums and urban blight.
  2. Encourage needed urban rehabilitation.
  3. Provide for the redevelopment of slum and blighted areas. 
  4. Undertake any of those activities or other feasible municipal activities as may be suitably employed to achieve the objectives of a workable program.

Additional programs and responsibilities of the URA include preventing the spread of detriment throughout the City. This means conserving, planning, removing congestion, providing parks, playgrounds, and other public improvements, encouraging voluntary rehabilitation, and compelling the repair and rehabilitation of deteriorated or deteriorating structures.  Members must also attend regular, special, and emergency meetings. Five positions are available with terms ending on January 1st, 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028.
