Laramie Rec Center’s 20th Anniversary!

Twenty years ago, the grand opening of the Laramie Recreation Center took place with much community collaboration and excitement. After years of planning – and a Specific Purpose tax initiative – the Laramie Recreation Center was erected and opened to the community in 2004. After listening to the needs and wants of the community, the Rec Center underwent renovations in 2014 to expand the space adding more fitness studios, a weight room, a steam room, and dry sauna. In 2018 a kids play area – the Rec Zone – was added, and most recently the leisure pool has added new play features. Safe to say, since its doors were first opened to the public, the Laramie Rec Center has continued to evolve to meet the needs of the Laramie community.

“Over the years we have continued to invest in and improve upon the Recreation Center. The Rec Center is a place that improves the quality of life to our patrons, offering amenities for the young and old, it truly is an asset to our community,” Jodi Guerin, Recreation Manager said.

Today the Rec Center is host to an indoor lap pool, indoor gym, track, weight room and workout stations, dozens of adult and youth programs such as volleyball, pickleball, swim lessons, Adventure Kids after school program, and much more. In addition, the Rec Center can be rented out for public and private events.

To celebrate two decades of activities, sports, events, and community, the Rec Center is hosting fun filled family friendly events throughout the month of October, beginning with a Family Fun Night, which took place on October 4th.

“The event was really successful, a lot of families came in with their kids and they really enjoyed the bounce house and activities; we look forward to hosting more events similar to it in the future,” says Guerin.
