New Emergency Department Entrance Open At IMH

— Beginning Today, May 23, 2024, Ivinson’s Emergency Department will have a new entrance, as the first phase of the Emergency Department expansion and renovation project nears completion.

“We are excited to unveil the first major phase of this project and open the new entrance and waiting space to the public,” Chief Executive Officer Doug Faus said. “In the last several years our old emergency department waiting spaces and treatment areas were overwhelmed by increased patient volumes. Opening our new waiting area and entrance is a significant milestone in improving our facilities to better meet the needs of our patients.”

Exactly one year after the May 2023 groundbreaking ceremony, the first and largest construction phase will now reopen a new entrance to the emergency department, a new two-spot ambulance garage, an expanded and enlarged patient and family waiting area, a bigger supply room, one renovated trauma room, three new exam rooms and forensic nursing spaces, as well as updated isolation, decontamination and HVAC capabilities.

“Patients, family members and visitors will immediately be able to benefit from the increased space in the Emergency department from the moment they walk in the door,” Emergency Department Director Erin Rumsey said. “With the expansion we have created a larger and more comfortable emergency waiting area. We are excited to open this improved space to the public as well as opening new and improved treatment areas.”

Fencing around the new entrance will be relocated in preparation for the opening, and hospital emergency admitting will be moving into the new entrance and admitting area. Patients will enter through the new entrance located under the new drive up awning, on the south east corner of the hospital. From there, patients may proceed to the new admitting desk in the emergency and family waiting area.

Beginning in June, construction will enter Phase 2, requiring the relocation of the existing nursing station, as well as a closure of three treatment rooms, the provider work area, staff lounge and current office spaces.

“Working and treating patients in an active construction zone poses challenges for everyone involved,” Rumsey said. “Throughout construction, our goal remains the same — to provide high quality emergency care. We thank our patients and their families for their continued patience.”
