Laramie Elks Lodge Helps Feeding Laramie Valley Fight Food Insecurity With $3000 For Fresh Food And Veggies

Local Elks Lodge, No. 582 provided $3,000 to Feeding Laramie Valley to provide fresh food and vegetables to those in need.  On February 22, 2024, Thyra Page, Exalted Ruler and Leah Elliott, Secretary delivered the funds to Gayle Woodsum, Founder, Feeding Laramie Valley. 

Upon receipt of the donation Gayle Woodsum stated, “We are conscious of what other local organizations are offering, not to be competitive, but to fill the gaps and supplement what others are doing. Right now, we provide fresh produce for over 600 people each week. Annually, we reach more than 3000 unduplicated individuals. This donation will go a long way to improve our ability to do so.” Fresh fruits and vegetables are provided through “share bags” that contain locally grown, donated, or regionally purchased items. 

The local Elks Lodge #582 secured the $3,000 Hometown grant from the Wyoming Elks Association to specifically fight food insecurity in Laramie and Albany County.  Knowing that a $200 donation provides “share bags” of fresh fruit and vegetables for 10 weeks to a family of four, this was the perfect use of these funds.  “The Laramie Elks Lodge appreciates the support provided in our community by Feeding Laramie Valley and recognizes the critical need for anyone dealing with food insecurity,” stated Thyra Page.
