How The City Of Laramie Supports Jubilee Days

The City of Laramie is a major supporter of Laramie Jubilee Days and the unique opportunity it offers to residents and visitors to experience Wyoming’s history. To help ensure the success of this annual fun-filled event, the City assembles a team of staff members to partner with the Laramie Jubilee Days committee.

For over 80 years, Laramie Jubilee Days has been a celebration of all things Wyoming. In 1940, the first Laramie Jubilee Days celebration was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Wyoming’s Statehood on July 10, 1890. Then known as “Equality Days,” events included a fiddlers’ contest, chariot races, and a giant parade. The following year, the event turned into a three-day celebration, renamed Laramie Jubilee Days, and evolved to include activities like street dances, parades, downtown food and beer festivals, and the rodeo.

Today, this weeklong event takes place around the Wyoming statehood anniversary. Every year around the 10th of July, Laramie becomes a bustling city with residents and visitors enjoying a variety of events that showcase and celebrate Wyoming’s history and culture. While many of the event details are organized by the Laramie Jubilee Day’s Committee, an assembled team of City of Laramie staff assists in coordinating the event as well.

This team has consisted of Nancy Oakland-Potter, Nancy Bartholomew, Robert Terry, Taun Smith and additional LPD officers, Dennis Johnson and assisting fire crews, Shane Johnson, Craig Nottage and the Streets crews, Felipe Suazo and the Solid Waste crews, and Scott Hunter and the Park and Recreation crews.

“This group is well-deserving of recognition for their contribution to this annual celebration. Everyone puts the right ‘git er’ done’ attitude toward the events that surely benefit our community,” says Assistant City Manager, Todd Feezer.

This City crew assists with the planning and execution of Laramie Jubilee Days by ensuring alcohol permits are completed and procedures are followed, coordinating the rodeo logistics, downtown access, and carnival wristbands. In addition, the Laramie Fire Department and Street Division staff assures safety measures are in place, the Solid Waste staff mitigates trash by placing a large number of receptacles staff, and the Laramie PD patrols all events to help keep everyone safe.

Additionally, the City of Laramie administrative staff assists by conducting inspections of the carnival rides to ensure they are in safe working order. City Health Inspector Cody Talbott visits each of the food vendors to confirm they are licensed and following all state guidelines to avoid incidents of foodborne illnesses.

“This annual event draws a large crowd of people from all over the state, the U.S., and even other countries. While it’s a fun week of activity that greatly stimulates our economy and culture, it involves a lot of teamwork and coordination of our City staff to help make this annual celebration of our statehood a huge success,” says Nancy Oakland-Potter, City Manager’s Office.

The City of Laramie anticipates another exciting series of events during this year’s Laramie Jubilee Days and asks everyone to do their part in helping keep this week fun and safe for all.
