UPDATED: Sugarloaf Fire Burning Near Laramie Peak

Update 1:55pm:

Initial investigation of the fire origin indicates that the wildfire is likely human caused. Anyone with information can call the Forest Service Tip Line at 303-275-5266.

The fire origin is near the terminus of Forest Road 637 and the Cow Creek Trailhead.

The Sugarloaf Fire was reported Monday afternoon on the Laramie Peak Unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest.

As of 9pm on July 25th this fire is approximately 500 acres, and is burning approximately 7 miles southwest of Laramie Peak and 5 miles southwest of Friend Park Campground in Albany County, Wyoming. 

A wide variety of resources were on site during initial response including smokejumpers, SEATS, heavy air tankers, engines, and one Type II crew. A Type II Incident Management Team has been ordered.

The cause is unknown and under investigation. 

Evacuation orders were issued for the immediate evacuation of Bear Creek Road between the Garrett Intersection and Friend Park including Garrett. 

Pre-evacuation notice is in effect for Friend Park and Fetterman to Garrett Ranch.
